Explore the creative possibilities of printmaking in this hands-on course designed for beginners and returning students alike. Across eight weeks, you will learn the fundamentals of a range of printmaking techniques including linocut, drypoint etching, monoprinting, and more.
The first half of the term focuses on linocut. Each student will receive a complimentary 15 x 15 cm lino block and be guided through the full process—from preparing the block and transferring an image, to carving techniques and printing using a small press. Students can choose to create a single-colour print or experiment with reduction methods to produce multi-coloured works.
Midway through the course, you will be introduced to drypoint etching, learning how to prepare a plate, apply ink, and print using the press. Depending on group interest, additional techniques such as cyanotype, gelli-plate printing, embossing, papermaking, monoprint, and screen printing may also be explored.
By the end of the course, you will have produced a collection of lino and drypoint prints while developing your technical skills and artistic confidence. Returning students will be supported to extend their practice and refine more advanced techniques.
This is an 8-week course. All materials will be supplied for the first class; you will need to purchase other materials during the term that will be discussed in the first class.
Suitable for absolute beginners or the more experienced student.
