Learn the myths and the methods of storytelling from award winning writer Stephen McGrath.

Do you want to know a few writing hacks? How to plan your work? Balance the creative with the critique? Know how to stay positive in moments of writers self-doubt? How to do dialogue? The methods of writing in different forms? Writing habits?

Well, Stephen McGrath has mismanaged all these factors over many, many years… before finding a proper pathway to productive writing. Luckily if you attend the workshop you get to shortcut the years of Steve’s misery and get to the hard-earned facts about the myths and the methods of storytelling. You won’t be asked to write anything, bring anything or read anything. Only share what you want to. Come and enjoy creative writing for an evening.

Stephen McGrath won the 2009 Age Short Story Award with his story ‘A Parachute Landing in Siberia’, published a novel ‘Jimmy Sharman’s Boxers’. He was runner up in the 2011 Age Short Story Award with his story ‘The Yellow Chair’. He has won other national story competitions and received a major artist in residency at Bundanon.

Stephen McGrath has spent most of his life trying to write “great stories that are well told.” Over the last 40 years he has made mistakes, gone in completely the wrong direction, taken on board bad advice, doubted himself, written a completely unpublishable novel, given up (8 times), wrote with the wrong tenses and with poor grammar, been rejected by publishers, he has sat at his writing desk with writers block. Stephen has gone through all of this and come out the other side and is willing to share what he has learnt so the path to productive writing is easier for you.
