In celebration of Science Week, discover the creative possibilities hidden within everyday natural materials. In this hands-on workshop, participants will experiment with colour derived from tea, coffee, hibiscus, turmeric, charcoal and other accessible materials while learning how different substances behave when mixed with water and simple binders.
Rather than focusing solely on paint-making, the workshop will combine experimentation with drawing and painting. Participants will create colour tests and sample studies before using their natural pigments to develop one or more finished botanical watercolour artworks to take home.
As part of the workshop, Maja will also demonstrate how charcoal, soil, coffee and sawdust can be incorporated into contemporary art practice to create textured surfaces and drawings. This component will serve as an introduction to further possibilities for participants who would like to continue exploring natural materials at home.
Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike.
