A two‑day outdoor sketching workshop where youth learn observational drawing and creative expression through plant studies and landscape sketching.
Step outside and discover the beauty of drawing from life in this two‑day outdoor sketching workshop designed especially for young artists. Guided by an experienced tutor, participants will explore observational drawing techniques, creative expression, and ways to translate the natural world into expressive sketches.
This workshop encourages students to slow down, look closely, and develop confidence in capturing what they see—plants, landscapes, textures, and outdoor scenes—all while enjoying time in nature.
🍃 Day 1 – Observational Plant Drawing
On Day 1, students will take a guided walk through the gardens to collect interesting plants, leaves, flowers, and natural objects.
Back at the sketching area, they’ll learn:
- how to observe detail, shape, line, texture, and form
- techniques for close‑up botanical sketching
- how to express what they see through confident mark‑making
Participants will create a series of detailed plant studies using their gathered materials.
🌳 Day 2 – Outdoor Landscape Sketching
Day 2 focuses on capturing larger outdoor scenes. Students will explore the garden and surrounding areas to select a subject that inspires them—such as:
- a garden landscape
- a winding pathway
- a striking tree canopy
- or a still‑life arrangement discovered outdoors
They’ll learn how to break down complex scenery, choose interesting viewpoints, and create expressive, atmospheric sketches.
