Having followed his father into the discipline of architecture, portraiture became a vehicle for Askolds Petersons to free his storytelling through the medium of oil paint on canvas. With expressive strokes he captures the essence of each sitter who is youthful in either spirit or body. Opening a dialogue on the production of portraits mediated by digital technology, these raw studio paintings sharpen our focus of reality – they are a way of seeing the world.

Askolds is a long-time member of Whitehorse Arts Association and resident of Box Hill. He is a draftsman and observer of the community and built environment in Whitehorse.
