Master still life observational drawing and learn how our brains work differently when observing a 3D object for translating to 2D. Using plants as your vehicle for learning you will gain knowledge and skills around why we use different pencil grades and how watercolour paints behave on different surfaces.
Learn observational drawing of plants (provided in class) and master watercolour techniques. In this class, we will use a range of pencils—3H, HB, and 2B—to explore different tonal ranges and observe how these pencils behave on various paper surfaces.
By studying both traditional botanical illustration and contemporary works, we will focus on composition, colour mixing, and paint application. Get to know your tools and experiment with different types of paper. What’s the difference between hot press and cold press paper? Discover techniques like painting wet-into-wet, using a dry brush, and glazing pigments, as opposed to mixing them on the palette.
