About

Box Hill Community Arts Centre (BHCAC) is an artistic and cultural hub within the City of Whitehorse.

Home to a wide variety of local arts and community groups, including the Alcove Art Shop, the Centre is a meeting place where people from all walks of life can come together to experience and enjoy the arts.

Art classes and workshops are on offer throughout the year for people of all ages. BHCAC is lucky to have a diverse range of artists who teach our classes. Each of our tutors bring their own approach to both creating and teaching art. The Centre’s art studios and meeting rooms, including an exhibition space, are also available for hire.

Box Hill Community Arts Centre acts as ‘home’ to many regular hire groups, ranging from Art and Craft, Performing Arts, Community and Special Interest groups. Learn more about the BHCAC Community Groups.

We are looking for passionate, community-minded people to join the team at Box Hill Community Arts Centre in volunteer roles. Volunteers support our classes and studio programs, provide exhibition and venue support or assist with the beautiful decorative gardens.

Garden Volunteers

Box Hill Community Arts Centre Garden Volunteers help to create a vibrant, welcoming and creative garden space for visitors to the centre to enjoy. Volunteers assist with the development and maintenance of the gardens at Box Hill Community Arts Centre.

Visitor Services and Program Support Volunteers

Visitor Services and Program Support Volunteers enhance visitor experiences at Box Hill Community Arts Centre by providing a warm and helpful presence to visitors. Volunteers promote the Centre by welcoming all visitors, offering information and support as well as assisting exhibitors and the BHCAC team.

The Gallery

The Gallery is an impressive space and is designed to host a wide variety of exhibitions throughout the year, supporting both individual artists and groups. 

The exhibitions are diverse, ranging from traditional and contemporary art forms to new ideas and techniques. The gallery also promotes social inclusion and cultural diversity by supporting local, state, and interstate artists, including emerging, mid-career, and established artists.

The Gallery is open Monday to Friday during office hours, with varying hours on weekends. Entry to the exhibitions is free, inviting the public to explore and engage with the art on display as well as the surrounding landscaped gardens.

Box Hill Community Arts Centre invites applications from artists to exhibit within our professional public gallery. Located in the award-winning Box Hill Community Arts Centre building, the light-filled gallery comes equipped with a hanging system, display cabinets, professional lighting and an adjoining lounge/ kitchen area.
