The Reason Why I Choose to Teach Chinese Brush Painting and Calligraphy

Echo grew up in an artistic family. Her father’s association with leading Chinese painting artists in Jiangsu Province nurtured her deep love for Chinese arts from a young age. As a teenager, she began learning Chinese brush painting under Professor Lu Yuezi, a highly-regarded master and professor at Nanjing Normal University.

During a difficult period in her family’s life, Echo found great joy and peace through learning Chinese brush painting. It provided a peaceful refuge for healing and personal growth to her. Since then, Echo’s passion has been to share this joy, healing, and sense of peace with others through the teaching of this art form.

Areas of Expertise

Echo’s work is characterised by a unique combination of traditional Chinese brush painting infused with a modern, contemporary style. Her paintings are often imbued with a strong sense of movement and energy, using bold brushstrokes and colour to create dynamic compositions.

As a curious artist, Echo enjoys exploring and experimenting with different techniques to paint what she sees and feels. Her teaching encompasses both traditional and contemporary free-style Chinese brush painting (Xie Yi), meticulous style (Gong Bi), and Chinese calligraphy. Topics include flowers, birds, animals, and landscapes.

The themes Echo teaches are drawn from everyday life, encouraging students to observe their surroundings, feel the present moment, and learn techniques to express those experiences. She creates a fun and harmonious learning environment for students to enjoy and thrive in.
