Join us for an excursion into the hidden worlds within our waterways. Drawing on more than 20 years of expertise in aquatic micro-invertebrate ecology, Dr. Robert Walsh will reveal the microscopic organisms that underpin aquatic food webs and sustain larger ecosystems. The freshwater micro-invertebrates, commonly called zooplankton, are typically comprised of four major groups of microscopic animals smaller than 2mm: these are the Rotifers, Ostracods, Copepods and Cladocerans.
Artist Emma X Zhang brings these unseen realms into view through microscopic image stacking, processed prints, fabric works and light installations in her immersive exhibition After-Image at Whitehorse Art Gallery.
Together, they explore what remains after we look away: the biological residue holding environments together, and how a fusion of science and art can make the invisible not only visible but deeply felt.
This event will feature an exhibition tour and presentation on aquatic organisms and ecosystems.
