Every place tells a story.
Whether it’s a childhood neighbourhood, a favourite holiday destination, a local park or the beautiful surroundings of Strathdon House & Orchard, this workshop invites you to capture the essence of a place that holds meaning for you. Surrounded by the colours of spring and overlooking the heritage gardens and vegetable patch, participants will draw inspiration from one of Whitehorse’s most picturesque community spaces.
Guided by artist Santosh Mahale, participants will explore the creative process behind transforming memories into artwork. Through observation and simple research techniques, you’ll learn how to identify the landmarks, birds, heritage architecture, natural elements and personal objects that give a place its unique character.
The workshop introduces the fundamentals of composition and design, simple research techniques, the basics of drawing, colour theory and colour mixing, and how to work confidently with a limited palette to create harmony and atmosphere. Participants will then develop their own artwork using acrylic paints as the primary medium, with the option to incorporate drawing materials if preferred.
Designed for beginners and experienced creatives alike, this mindful, screen-free workshop focuses on observation, storytelling and creative expression rather than technical perfection, leaving you with a unique artwork inspired by the places and memories that matter most.
